About
Hi, I’m Morgan (she/they).
I started Our Own Hands in 2018 as a community outreach project. Ironically, the project was not initially for plants, but for end of life education. My goal was to make room for people to discuss their thoughts and needs when it came to the inevitable. This path led me to a role where I helped open the world’s first funeral home offering a full transformation into soil instead of conventional burial or cremation.
So, how does this connect to plant care? Seems like a strange pivot?
Perhaps. Throughout that journey I was privileged enough to return people to the earth, and see how deep our connection to nature runs. I saw the critical role that plants play both during life, and at the end of it. I feel that my calling is centered around this belief, and how it might benefit society.
Nature is healing, and humans crave that connection. It is innate. Thus, we build our indoor jungles, our little pea patches atop skyscrapers, or seek refuge in the city's green spaces. Sticking our hands in soil meets a need that dances in our very bones, even if quietly.
I want to help foster that connection, if you’ll allow me.
